'Scampi'

Scampi then . . .

Scampi came to us in an appauling state of neglect. Our vet saw this poor little animal and as little could be done for her at the Bridledown site, an appointment was booked for the dog to have the necessary treatment to give her the quality of life she deserved.

The operation took longer than expected as when the matted clumps of fur were removed, the true extent of neglect became clear.

This poor creature had been left to suffer, not only with a huge mammary tumour, but also her back claws were so over grown that they had curled back on themselves, cutting into her paws and causing them to bleed and become infected. Her mouth, it was discovered, was also in a terrible state, nearly all of her teeth needed to be removed, as either the teeth themselves were rotten, or the gums were so infected that they could not support them.

It always amazes me how these dogs go through so much but still remain so happy and trusting, she came into us in this state with tail wagging! Under all that fur it appears that she is actually a Yorkie x Dachshund!

. . . and Scampi now!

Scampi recovered well from her operation and is going from strength to strength.

UPDATE!

Scampi (now called Pixie) has found a loving and caring new home, thank you to all those that have offered her a home and all your support.

'Scruffie'

Scruffie then . . .

Scruffie was very underweight and had really poor skin probably through no better reason than an old neglected flea allergy. She had very little fur, and what fur she did have was matted, so Scruffie was added the vets’ list of dogs needing treatment. Scruffie in fact needed 3 injections for her skin, Stronghold – a flea treatment- and medicated shampoo. After 10 days she was given another injection because her skin had been neglected for so long. It was also discovered that she too would need dental treatment.

'Shaggy'

Shaggy is a Bloodhound. Again Shaggy had a skin complaint that been allowed to deteriorate to the stage at which we saw him. He also had old calloused sores, which in our vets’ opinion were due to prolongedlengths of time having to sit or lay on hard ground. Shaggy too was given three injections to help counteract any pain and help to heal the skin. Stronghold and medicated shampoo were to be administrated over the following days by the Chancepixies staff. He had to have another injection 10 days after the initial dose to help boost his recovery. Unfortunately we are unsure as to whether Shaggy will ever get his fur back.

UPDATE!

Shaggy (now called Watson) is living with a lovely couple in their Vegetarian Guest House in the New Forest with his new canine brother Jake the Springer Spaniel. We wish him and his new family all the best for the future!

' Chance '

These pictures were taken on the 3rd November 2006, the day after Chance came into our care.

Chance has now found a new home!

Chance was so weak and emaciated, that we took him straight to the vet for a health check to see if there was any underlying reason for his appalling condition. Our vet could find none, it was purely down to starvation. Because of his severe lack of condition he had developed another problem, which meant that if Chance was allowed to get cold, could be life threatening. Chance weighed only 17.4 kg, he should weigh around 40-50 kg, could Chance be in this sorry state because of the Rotties recent bad press?

Chance was taken back to the Home and was bedded down in one of our under floor heated, isolation kennels. We offered him some food, which after a little encouragement he ate most of, we expect that his stomach has shrunk over time as a result of being starved. Thankfully Chance made it through the night, he is now being fed 3 times a day, little and often on fresh meat and complete dog food.

Despite all he must have been through, Chance is a very trusting and friendly dog whose tail wags whenever he sees you.

We rely on the kind donations from members of the public to help us save dogs like Chance. So please, if you can, help us to help them. Thank you.

' Louie '

Louie has now found a loving new home!

Louie was left behind after his owners were forcibly evicted. During his time with his previous owner Louie had been subjected to a cataloge of abuse, his mistreatment had been reported to the RSPCA on many occasions. We can only speculate what this poor boy had been subjected to . . .

When he came into our care he was very unsure of himself, timid and not too steady on his feet. It soon became clear that Louie was partially sighted, hard of hearing and was also drinking more than others. We suspected that he may be diabetic.

Louie has been taken to the vet and a blood sample was sent for testing, we are now awaiting the results. The vet, having taken a close look at Louie, thinks he is not as old as he looks, perhaps only 5-6 years old.

UPDATE!

Excellent news! Louies blood tests came back clear!

We have wormed Louie and he is being fed twice a day on meat and complete dry food and is perking up well, he has a heat lamp in his kennel for extra warmth at night and the future is looking a lot brighter. We are looking to keep him in our care for a little longer to keep an eye on his progress, but Louie will soon be looking for a loving new home.

' Shadow '

Shadow has now found a new home.

Shadow was found abandoned and in a bad state of neglect. This unfortunate boy had been left to suffer an allergy to fleas for so long that he had licked, scratched and bitten away a large area of fur leaving his skin raw and exposed.

Shadow was lucky, and is now in our care. His is currently under treatment to stop the itch and counteract the soreness to allow his skin to heal, recover and to regain his coat as best he can.

During this time he will need repeated and on-going treatment, and will therefore remain in our care until he is well enough to find a new home.

Can you help us to help Shadow, and so many others like him, back to health?

In order for us to continue to treat and care for these abandoned dogs, and so many more like them, we need your help.
