2010 Photography Competition
"RESULTS NOW IN"
Class winners and Best In Show images below
In order to help raise funds for our Charity to help dogs and education we are holding a photography competition and hope you will enter.
Thank you to all our entrants without whom this competition could not have taken place and to the judges whose deliberations have produced the following results.
Congratulations to All our winners - and everyone who has such fabulous dogs to take pictures of.
Classes
1. Dogs looking cute, doing cute things (Entries)
Judge: Marcel Booth
cuteness more important than photographic quality
Winner:
Firstly, thanks to all the entrants, and thanks to all the models ;)
I'll be honest here, it was hard to pick a clear winner.
I'm a sucker for a cute pet and after umming and aaahing I finally picked a winner.
If you can wake him or her up...please step forward Photo number 18.
It's a hard life eh? Or is that just a dog's life.....
2. Dogs in show stance (Entries)
Judge: Yv White
quality of dog must be clearly visible - no digital editing to alter appearance of the dog
My choice of winner for 'Dogs in Show Stance' category goes to number 4, which is a young dog already showing off her lines beautifully. It was very close, particularly with 2 and 5, which were almost as good, the only thing that swung it for 4 over them was showing so well at such a young age.
Well done to all who entered in all the categories, people have some very photogenic dogs.
3. Dogs in Action (Entries)
Judge: Colin Greenlees
will be judged on picture and photographic content, clarity and composition
I've studied all the images and for me there were two that stood out: #5 (leaping Doberman) and #13 (GSD in snow). The Doberman shot was very well executed with great timing, exposure and composition however the winner is the shot of the GSD running towards the camera. There are a few reasons for this image being better than the rest and they are:
1. Exposing correctly in snow and sunshine is notoriously difficult and the photographer has nailed it.
2. The composition is excellent with the dog being correctly placed in the image to ensure there is plenty of background interest whilst allowing enough space in front of the dog.
3. The focus is perfect and the photographer has managed to capture the eye intensity with great clarity.
My congratulations go to the winner for a truly outstanding and technically competent photograph.
4. Dogs - Black and White (Entries)
Judge: Marc Falber
will be judged on picture and photographic content, clarity and composition
The winner of the Black & White section is No.5, really love the lighting and the detail. I'd also like to give an honourable mention to No.12, really like it and it's something different.
"Reserve Best In Show" winning £10 Pets at Home Voucher
5. Dogs - Open, photographers choice. (Entries)
Judge: Matt Moule
will be judged on picture and photographic content, clarity and composition
Reasons for it winning, the angle to the dog is good, its low down, its in focus and its nicely exposed.
special mention to numbers: 14, 15, 24 and 23. the dog/bridge was very nearly the winner
all entries are good, its been a pleasure helping!
"Runner Up"
- winning £5 Pets at Home Voucher

6. Dogs - Digitally Manipulated Images (Entries)
this class is limited purely by your imagination and that it must contain dog(s)!
Judge: George Michie
Judge's choice
Quite a close run thing actually.
However, the lurcher on the settee gets it , simply because it's a good example of processing being used to enhance a picture which is well spotted, has decent composition and just appeals.
The manipulation is good, it's a really nice sepia conversion, looks like a slight vignette which hasn't been overcooked. A good example of someone knowing when to stop :)
"Best In Show"
- winning £25 Pets at Home Voucher

*This competition is being organised on our behalf by some of our Trustees, primarily Christine Nichols, which is why entries are to go to her kerioak.com address and depending on the amount of entries may need to be hosted there, rather than our office/site as our time is taken up with caring for our strays. If you are in a position to give a good home to one of our dogs please check out our dogs looking for homes and contact us.
